# Notion integration

> Connect Notion as a knowledge source so the AI agent can search and reference Notion pages and databases when answering inquiries

Connect Notion as a knowledge source. The AI agent can then search and reference Notion pages and databases when answering employee inquiries.

You sign in with your Notion account and connect via OAuth.
AI Helpdesk imports the pages and databases that you share with it during authorization, including their subpages. It never accesses pages you did not share.

<Note>
  AI Helpdesk requests read-only access only and never modifies your Notion content.
</Note>

## Prerequisites

<Info>
  * **Admin** role in AI Helpdesk is required
  * You need a Notion account that can access the pages and databases to import
  * Knowledge sources must be initialized. If the **Knowledge sources** section shows the **Initialize Knowledge sources** button, click it and wait until initialization finishes
</Info>

<Warning>
  AI Helpdesk does not apply the sharing settings of Notion pages. Pages you share with AI Helpdesk can be used to answer questions from every employee in your organization who uses AI Helpdesk.

  Do not share pages or databases that contain sensitive information during authorization. Before you start the first sync, you can also limit what to import. Turn off **Include database rows**, or set **Page IDs to sync (optional)**. For details, see [Set what to import](#crawl-scope).
</Warning>

  Set what to import
</h2>

By default, AI Helpdesk imports every page you shared with it and every row of the databases you shared.
To change what to import, set the following on the **Configure Notion** screen when you connect.
To change the settings later, click **Edit Config** in the menu (**…**) of the Notion row.

1. Turn **Include database rows** on or off (on by default). When it is on, AI Helpdesk imports each row of a shared database or wiki as its own document
2. To import only verified pages from wikis, turn on **Only sync verified wiki pages**
3. To import only specific pages, enter their page IDs in **Page IDs to sync (optional)**, one ID per line
4. Click **Save Settings**

<Info>
  * **Only sync verified wiki pages** skips wiki pages that are not marked as verified in Notion. It does not affect pages outside wikis
  * If **Page IDs to sync (optional)** is empty, all shared pages are included
  * If you set **Page IDs to sync (optional)**, AI Helpdesk does not import pages that you did not list. To import a page under one of them, add its ID too
  * When **Include database rows** is on, AI Helpdesk imports the rows of shared databases even if you set **Page IDs to sync (optional)**. To import only the pages you list, turn off **Include database rows**
</Info>

<Warning>
  A single sync can import up to 3,000 items. If the content exceeds this limit, the sync fails. Share fewer pages, or narrow the scope. Turn off **Include database rows**, or set **Page IDs to sync (optional)**.
</Warning>

## Using Notion with the AI Agent

Once connected, the AI agent includes Notion in knowledge searches automatically.

The AI agent does not access Notion each time it answers a question. Instead, it searches the content that each sync imports and indexes. Pages you add or update in Notion appear in search results after the next sync.

By default, the sync schedule is set to **Manual (default)**. With Manual, Notion syncs only when you click **Sync Now**. You can find it in the menu (**…**) of the Notion row in the **Knowledge sources** section. To sync automatically, open **Sync schedule** in the same menu and change it to **Every hour**, **Every 6 hours**, **Daily**, or **Weekly**. You need the AI Helpdesk **Admin** role to run a sync or change the sync schedule.

To explicitly reference Notion in a Playbook step, use the `{{document_search}}` tool.

```markdown theme={null}
### Step 2: Search internal documents
Use {{document_search}} to find relevant procedures.
Include the internal Notion wiki in the search.
```

## Check the sync history

To open the sync history, click the badge that shows the sync status of the Notion row (such as **Synced**). You can also click **Sync history** in the row's menu (**…**).
For what each count in the sync history means, see "[Read the sync history](/en/ai-helpdesk/integrations/confluence#sync-history)" in Confluence integration.

## Disconnect Notion

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Knowledge sources">
    Go to **Settings** > **Integration** tab and open the **Knowledge sources** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Disconnect">
    Click **Disconnect** in the menu (**…**) of the Notion row you want to disconnect.
    In the confirmation dialog, click **Disconnect**.

    For 5 seconds after you click the button in the dialog, you can click **Undo** in the notification to cancel the disconnection.

    <Warning>
      After disconnecting, the AI agent will no longer search Notion. Synced content is removed on the next update.
    </Warning>
  </Step>
</Steps>

Disconnecting does not remove the access you granted on the Notion side. If you no longer need it, revoke it in Notion.

## Troubleshooting

**The row's badge shows "Connection broken" or "Sync failed"**

Check the error in the sync history. If the problem is related to authentication, click **Edit credential** in the row's menu (**…**). Then click **Re-authenticate** in the confirmation dialog, and authorize with Notion again.

**Certain pages do not appear in search results**

* AI Helpdesk does not import pages that you did not share with it during authorization
* If you set **Page IDs to sync (optional)**, pages that you did not list are not imported
* If **Only sync verified wiki pages** is on, wiki pages that are not verified are not imported

Check the settings from **Edit Config** in the row's menu (**…**).
