# What is Admina Extension

> Learn what Admina Extension (the browser extension) does and how to choose a distribution method.

Admina Extension is a browser extension for Chrome or Edge. It sends SaaS usage data from employee browsers to Admina, so you can track last-used dates and activity for services that do not expose them through an API.

## What Admina Extension does

After you install Admina Extension, it sends SaaS usage data to Admina based on URLs and domains accessed in the browser.

This helps you detect inactive accounts and review usage for services that are difficult to track through API integrations alone.

The extension can detect SaaS applications registered in the Admina database (currently over 190,000 SaaS tools). Detected services appear under Integrations > **Shadow IT** and in the [Event Log](/en/it-management/shadow-it/oepl0j5y5g-eventlog).

<Info>
  If your environment routes internet traffic through a proxy, the extension automatically uses that proxy as long as it is configured at the browser or OS level. No additional configuration is needed. You cannot specify a proxy that is separate from the OS or browser proxy settings.
</Info>

## Relationship to Shadow IT detection

Admina Extension is one of the primary ways to detect shadow IT and retrieve service activity. For the full workflow from distribution to reviewing detection results, see [Distribute the Browser Extension to Detect Shadow IT and Retrieve Service Activity](/en/it-management/shadow-it/7q1wryx3dk-extension).

## Troubleshooting

If data is not sent after distribution or warnings appear, follow the steps in [Retrieve and review Diag data](/en/it-management/admina-extension/344geptwee-diag) to verify your configuration.
